John Speropulos and Barbara Hubbs

 
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – At the Northeast Tennessee Association of Realtors membership and election breakfast on September 12, 2013, John Speropulos, president of Mitch Cox Realtors, Inc. was awarded the 2013 3rd Mark Keesecker Humanitarian Award at the General Morgan Inn in Greeneville, TN.
 
There were 200 NETAR members at the event.
 
The Mark Keesecker Humanitarian Award recognizes a NETAR member in good standing who has made significant contributions of personal time, money, materials and other resources in service to community programs or non-profit organizations. Candidates are judged on the level of personal contribution, impact of personal contributions, broadness of impact, and the project’s suitability as a role model for other realtors.
 
The NETAR voting committee chose Speropulos for the award because of his dedication to Young Life Northeast Tennessee and service to the Mountain States Foundation.
 
John has served in numerous leadership positions at Mountain States Foundation since 1996, for 17 years. He has brought value to the organization, both in significant financial support as well as having given a minimum of well over 1000 hours, through board meetings, committee meetings, his strong involvement of Niswonger Children’s Hospital Capital Campaign, which took place during his tenure as Chair. John takes seriously his role in guiding the organization, always applying his values-based leadership style. He demonstrates integrity and true honor in all that he does, and is highly respected throughout the region.

John Speropulos began his volunteer career in Young Life when he was a college student. He began as a Young Life Leader, Young Life Committee Member, the Finance Chair of the Young Life Committee, the Chairperson of the Young Life Committee and is currently serving as a member of the Young Life Executive Committee. He has also briefly served as Food Service Manager at Young Life’s Lake Champion Resort in Glen Spey, New York. In all he has given over 30 years of his life to Young Life’s outreach to local teenagers. In addition to the hours John has given to Young Life, he has been one of the most ardent financial supporters.
 
“For thirty-some of Young Life’s 42 year history in the area John Speropulos has led the charge in making sure that teenagers are cared for, mentored, challenged and reached” said Scott Caldwell, area director for Young Life in Northeast Tennessee.
 
Upon receiving the award, Speropulos told a story about how his children inspiringly remind him of his calling to strive to help others.
 
Barbara Hubbs, president of NETAR, said, “Mark Keesecker was a well-established, caring realtor. He was sensitive to people’s needs and was generous with both his time and his resources regardless of the time of day. I can see these qualities in John Speropulos in his service and compassion for our community.”
