Good Samaritans Melting Pot Service

The work being accomplished at Good Samaritan Ministries is significant and has encouraged Mitch Cox Companies employees to come together with the common goal of service to others. In the past, the employees of Mitch Cox Companies have packed food and gift boxes, as well as, provided gifts to several adopted seniors during the holiday season. Feeling led to minister on a regular basis, the opportunity presented itself through one avenue of Good Samaritan Ministries in a program known as Our Daily Bread, held at the Melting Pot, located at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Adopting the third Thursday of every month, Mitch Cox Companies purchases and prepares breakfast for those in need of a hot meal.

This opportunity to minister began in October. During the holiday season, Mitch Cox Companies partnered with a local not-for-profit ministry, Blessing Bags, which supplied much-needed toiletries and necessities while MCC assembled and distributed gift bags of snacks and homemade cookies to each person in attendance. Area businesses such as Sunset Dental, Fairfield Inn, Bojangle’s, and Krogers were also eager to assist by either donating or providing food and supplies–it’s truly been a combined effort from caring hearts.

Preparation for breakfast begins at 7:00 a.m. and the meals are served from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. While cooking and serving between 75-100 fresh, hot meals takes some planning and effort, ultimately this undertaking has not only met a need in the community, but has truly been a blessing to those serving as well. Mitch Cox Companies would be happy to share their experience with other business and encourages anyone interested in helping to call Aaron or Vicki at Good Samaritan Ministries, or call the Mitch Cox Companies office at (423) 282-6582 to learn more. The Johnson City Press published an article last month highlighting the much-needed service provided at Our Daily Bread.. You can read their article here.
