On March 31, 2016, Mitch Cox Companies and Universal Companies hosted Business After Hours and a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate their new offices at Silverdale Commons.

“Both Mitch Cox Companies and Universal Companies had outgrown our spaces and needed to expand” Mitch Cox, CEO and Founder, said. “Therefore, we joined forces as a partnership [with Universal Companies] to purchase and redevelop this 30-year-old manufacturing facility originally built by Jarl Extrusions.” The new development was named Silverdale Commons. Cox cited one of the reasons for relocating the Mitch Cox Companies headquarters was the increasing growth of the organization. “I have great faith that our organization will continue to grow and I wanted to provide them a workplace where they could achieve their goals,” Cox said.

Silverdale Commons was designed by Mitch Cox Construction, Inc. architect Mike Cannon. Taking inspiration from modern tech-forward design, Cannon created a versatile building with a high-tech look. Mitch Cox Companies partnered with Inspire Business Interiors to create an interior that reflected the same vision as the development’s exterior.

Cox discussed the importance of the relationship between Mitch Cox Companies and Universal Companies. “In the last 8 years, Mitch Cox Companies, in partnership with Universal Companies, have built over 1,000 apartments and have over 600 under construction now. Our construction company builds them and Shane and his team manage them. They have done a great job; all the apartments completed are leased.”

Cox concluded his speech by highlighting the economic impact the Silverdale Commons development has had on the Johnson City economy. “Each of the companies whose name you see on the buildings here today more than doubled their facility size when moving here and they have increased their employment over 40%. So, this re-development has been a big shot in the arm for the Johnson City economy.”

Shane Abraham, CEO of Universal Companies, ended the event with a thank you. “We’ve been very fortunate to operate and grow in a great region with talented and hardworking team members and a loyal customer base and so we want to extend our appreciation to all those who’ve been instrumental in helping this come together.”
