Announcing Two New Apartment Communities in Sevierville for 2019

Posted by on Dec 17, 2018

Mitch Cox Companies (MCC) and its long-time development partner Universal Development and Construction (UDC) broke ground in late 2018 on two brand new multifamily development projects in Sevierville, Tennessee.

The communities, The Villas at Kyker Ferry (268 townhome apartments) and The Villas at Pigeon River (173 townhome apartments) will provide upscale and affordable housing options to a region that lost thousands of residences in the 2016 Great Smoky Mountain Fires. The wildfires damaged or destroyed over 2,000 buildings and displaced at least 14,000 area residents and tourists in one of the largest natural disasters in the history of Tennessee.

Despite the tragedy, Sevier County continues to be the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, a national park surrounded by theme parks, hotels, restaurants and vacation homes that attract 11 million visitors annually.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to develop two great workforce housing communities to meet the need in the Sevierville market,” said Shane Abraham, CEO of UDC. “We see the resilience and continuing growth in this region for many years to come and we are happy to be part of it.”

The Villas at Kyker Ferry and The Villas at Pigeon River are the sixteenth and seventeenth communities in MCC and UDC’s joint portfolio which spreads across Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and North Carolina.

“We’re scaling fast,” said Mitch Cox, founder and CEO of MCC. “In the last eight years, we’ve constructed 1,700 apartment units. We have 700 more under construction currently and we have another 700 in the pipeline for 2019.”
